"Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, 'This is the real me,' and when you have found that attitude, follow it."

I grew up on a small family farm in northwest Iowa with my parents and four brothers. I knew at an early age that I would live and work in Chicago. In 1992 I opened a small church owned storefront and began to show hospitality to people who were struggling with poverty and addiction. The experience of knowing people who are marginalized by society has transformed my life. I found that God is near the broken hearted and when we get near the broken we experience God.
